Glaws show quality in comeback victory at Quins

JSD - 2 tries
By Cherry Picker
February 7 2010
Resilience, commitment, team spirit, entertainment and a never-say-die attitude are all qualities which have been notable by their absence in many of Gloucester’s displays this season, but they were all back in spades as they fought back for a 31-29 win at Harlequins that gave them the bonus point they needed to reach the semi-finals of the LV Cup.
Quins were gobsmacked by the way Glaws came back after the home team had built up a 20-point lead, but it was typical of the new-found spirit Glaws have been displaying recently and was also hopefully a sign of what we can expect between now and the end of the season.
If that does happen, it could well go a long way towards making up for what we have had to put up with in the first half of the campaign.
Showing too many changes to list, Glaws scored five tries, and won the game with a last-gasp conversion from the impressive Tim Taylor, who enjoyed a great first start for Glaws.
Glaws were actually 15 down in a dozen minutes, then lost hooker Darren Dawidiuk to the sin bin as the afternoon threatened to turn into a disaster.
The lost cause looked as if it could be rescued when James Simpson-Daniel scored two tries along with one from Taylor, and when Tim Molenaar went over five minutes from the end the alarm bells were ringing for the home team.
Tom Voyce, who had already made one of Sinbad’s tries, went over in the last minute and when Taylor converted to take his tally to 11 points, the stunning comeback was complete.
Coach Bryan Redpath, who must be really pleased with the way things are taking shape, told the BBC: "We had made a few changes and it looked like that early on but we steadied the ship and got two tries back before half-time.
"We came back and showed great resilience and commitment to win the game and give ourselves a bit of credit back."
Now it’s back to the Guinness Premiership, and Quins will be desperate to make amends when they visit Kingsholm next Saturday.
For Gloucester, you could even say the season starts again.

We meet again, then.

Blues v Glos in Cardiff. Mouthwatering prospect. Nicky'll be up for that one, I'm sure.

Hopefully, Glaws will actually turn up this time! Credit where it is due though, dont know what Redpath has said to the lads but they seem to be getting a serious head of steam up at the moment. Quins at home will be a big test in the GP and will show where Glaws are in development terms.

The game will be played Sunday March 14th. It's either a 12:15 or 16:15 kickoff depending on how Sky want it. The order is up to them, so I'm told.

That is the same weekend Wales are in Dublin, so unless Gatland starts dumping Blues players currently in the squad (and Cooper is at serious risk of this) most of our big guns are otherwise engaged.

What a great kick off time!... I am not sure if the game clashes with U20s/'A' games. Could well be Glaws put a much changed side out too.

Thanks for the info BB ... I think I'll take a trip to see this new stadium of yours.
Is it as easy to get to as the old one?

The stadium is not actually ours - we rent it off Cardiff City Football club. Don't get me going on that one!!

It's nowhere near the Arms Park - it's a good 20 - 25 minute walk from the city centre.

It's easy to get to if you're driving from Glos - parking is available within the stadium complex, but you tend to get snarled up in the traffic post match. I wouldn't recommend it.

If Glos are running coaches, that might be you best bet.
