Delve - Wales cap
Delve’s future is clouded in uncertainty as a mixture of rumours based on little evidence and reports based on even less have him heading for Cardiff, Melbourne and one or two other places when his Kingsholm contract expires at the end of the season.
The bad news is that there don’t appear to be too many people linking him with the prospect of extending his stay with Glaws, even though it appears the club has made him an offer to do so.
Meanwhile, in a move shrouded in accusations of political selection decision, Delve plays for Wales against Ireland in Dublin this weekend – we prefer to believe that he has been picked on merit and nothing else.
Scots Scott and Rory Lawson are both on the bench for their country against England in Edinburgh, while compatriots Alasdair Dickinson and Alasdair Strokosch were both injured while playing for Glaws against wasps last weekend.
But England duo Olly Morgan and Mike Tindall, looking to be coming back to his best as he scored the Glaws try at Wasps last weekend, are expected to be available, though they could be going to Edinburgh as reserves. Peter Buxton is also expected to be fit.
Glaws coach Bryan Redpath described the performance in the wasps defeat as average, but that was being kind – it was pretty poor actually, and that includes the pre-match performance of Redpath himself in deciding to experiment at half-back by picking Tim Taylor and Any Williams ahead of Rory Lawson and Nicky Robinson.
The LV is Gloucester’s only realistic chance of winning anything this season, but Cardiff won’t roll over on their own patch even though they will be without their international contingent while prop Gary Powell is also out with an ankle injury he picked up in last weekend’s defeat against Leinster.
That means they are down to their last two props in a threadbare squad and it could just be the best chance Glaws will get for a long time to earn a rare win over the Blues.
The winners will go into the final against Northampton or Saracens the following weekend, which means the rearranged Guinness Premiership match away to Newcastle Falcons, due to be played on Sunday March 21, will have to be moved to Wednesday March 31 in the far North East – not an easy game for travelling fans to get to in midweek.
