Amlin Cup draw is kind to Glaws
By Cherry Picker
July 28 2010
It's not often in sport that a good result in the first game in a pool can virtually guarantee progress in a competition, but that's the situation for Gloucester in the Amlin Cup - avoid defeat in the first game at Agen, and barring major upsets they should be on their way to the next stage of the competition.
Coach Bryan Redpath will, of course, warn against such over-confidence, but on the quiet he must admit the draw has been kind to his team.
Glaws travel to France for their Pool 5 opener on October 8, followed a week later with a game against Italians Rovigo. There are home and away games against La Rochelle in December, the pool games ending in January with the second Rovigo game and finally a home match against Agen, but which time Glaws will surely know what is required.
Redpath told BBC Gloucestershire: "You've got to start somewhere and the squad is far more settled this season. Certainly I learnt a lot last season.
"You've got to give it your all to give yourself a chance - winning a tournament is huge for any club.
"We've got to start better to give ourselves a chance to go through as leaders of the group.
"To have a home game at the end with hopefully our destiny in our own hands then, in some parts, the away game first is quite good."
The Amlin Cup fixtures are: Fri Oct 8 Agen (a), Sat Oct 16, Rovigo (h), Sat Dec 11, La Rochelle (a), Sun Dec 19, La Rochelle (h), Jan 13-16, Rovigo (a), Jan 20-23 Agen (h).
The Glaws players are currently in Portugal at their pre-season training camp, with the first pre-season game in just over two weeks, against Scarlets on August 14.

I reckon that's a good draw ... surely we can do well in one of the cups this season.
Or perhaps both?
As well as the GP, of course.

I agree, it is a good draw. With the last game at home, we will have a better chance of achieving any target for qualification to the knock-out stage.
