Derby win keeps Glaws momentum going

Wood - try

A 14-11 success at the Rec means Gloucester's recent domination of local rivals Bath continues ... but only just, thanks to a late penalty from replacement Ryan Mills.

It wasn’t a classic – derbies like this rarely are – and there were some X-rated episodes, but Glaws just about deserved a rare away victory that pleased coach Bryan Redpath.

The weather was awful and the rugby was dour, but the result is all for Glaws at the moment.

Redpath told the BBC: "We knew this game was going to be huge obviously away from home, for the table we needed four points today and the boys dug in well.

"I thought we were great in the first half, we created two easy opportunities which we didn't take.

"We had two little errors that cost us dearly at certain times in the second half time but we stuck at it.

"We've performed well against Harlequins but we haven't taken the points in the last three games. Now this is a real opportunity for us to have a go at them next week."

A Nick Wood try and two Freddie Burns penalties gave Glaws the edge in the first half after Tom Biggs had opened the scoring with a home try.  Bath came back in the second half and took the lead thanks to two penalties, only for Mills to kill them off with his three-pointer.

As Redpath says, the Harlequins game at Kingsholm next weekend is now the big one.

Two games against them this season have provided nothing but bitter memories – revenge would be more than welcome against the Premiership leaders as Glaws continue the campaign to join the top four.
