Gloucester are back and buzzing

Q's try

Gloucester fans don't need to pinch themselves, they are wide awake and it really did happen ... the cherry and whites are back.

A 27-21 victory over Leicester Tigers in an epic Kingsholm game surely provides the evidence needed to prove that this season’s results and gradual improvement in form have not been a flash in the pan.

After their spell in the doldrums, Glaws are a rugby power once again. Just look at the Prem table.

They carved out this win with a team performance built on pace, class, power, fitness, determination and professionalism.

Oh, and Nigel Davies.

Here on Shedloads we have never tried to hide our admiration for the Welshman since he got the job, and it’s great to be proved right.

Kingsholm was throbbing from start to finish as Charlie Sharples gave Glaws a great start with a first-minute try. After Scott Hamilton replied, Freddie Burns produced the score of the game and Akapusi Qera turned James Simpson-Daniel’s electrifying run into a try and even against 13 men, all the Tigers could muster was a penalty try.

With Burns converting all three tries and kicking two penalties, it was a wonderful day for Glaws and Davies told the BBC:  “I'm delighted with the way the players have evolved over the last six or seven weeks. To put a performance in like that, in many ways showed what we're capable of.

"In the first half, I thought we scored some great tries and played some good rugby, and if we'd been more accurate we could have scored a few more.

"The second half showed we had great determination and were playing for the shirt, the supporters and playing for each other.

"When you're down to 13 men for 10 minutes against one of the most consistently good teams in this league and can still come away with a win, that says something special about these players."

It says a fair bit about the coach and his staff, too.

Just one question … is Freddie Burns really not good enough for England?
