No excuses for woeful Glaws

Losing against Bath is always painful for Gloucester, losing at home is worse and being handed a right hammering is just plain unacceptable.

But let’s get something straight about a 32-5 Kingsholm defeat in the LV= Cup – Bath deserved it.

Ben Morgan and Billy Twelvetrees might have been impressing for England, but pathetic Glaws just didn’t turn up for their club with the sort of performance that slapped fans square in the face. Don’t give us any of this rubbish about the game not mattering because the cherry and whites were already out of the competition.

It did matter – it always matters, and it matters more against Bath.

We can’t be bothered to go through the details of the first defeat against Bath in six games, the first at home in seven years, the heaviest at home in the professional era.

Just look at the scoreline, five Bath tries to one for Glaws – it was worse than that.

Forwards coach Carl Hogg must have wished his boss Nigel Davies was doing the after-match interviews, but he had to be honest and admit: “We made far too many errors.

“We didn’t adapt to the referee or his interpretation, and paid the price.”

He also told the Citizen: “We’ve got magnificent support, there was a huge amount of pride at stake today.

“We think a lot of our support, and we need to hit back now.

“We’ve got to use this as motivation now – get back to work and start making amends.”

It will take some doing after this awful display, especially as the next opponents are Northampton (again) at Franklins Gardens.

If Glaws want to finish in the Premiership top four, they’ll have to do a lot better than this.
