May's try

If you are going to make a comeback, how about doing it by scoring the winner in the tightest of games? That's what Akapusi Qera has done to strengthen Gloucester's hopes of a top four finish this season.

The big man generally has a bnig influence on a gam,e, but this was as big as it gets as Glaws snatched avital win from a game that could have been lost by half-time.

They were 12-3 down at the break anyway, Rob Buchanan and Sam Smith scoring tries for the champions, who had another disallowed for a knock-on that could have made it a more than challenging 19-3 at the break.

But Jonny May scored a spectacular counter-attack try straight after half-time and Qera powered his way over with ten minutes left as Quins failed to cope with the sin-binning of hooker Joe Gray.

Cherry and white coach Nigel Davies told the BBC: "It is an important result in terms of our season and our challenge, not only from the performance and the result, but the springboard it might allow us for our remaining games.

"If we hit our straps, who knows? We will take each game as it comes. There is a lot of hard rugby to be played.

"I was delighted with the style and ambition we showed, and more than anything the work-rate of the players.

"The way we moved the ball, the fluency in our attack for large periods of the game and the intent was remarkable. The boys worked so hard for each other."

It was a classic heavyweight contest between two strong, well-matched sides and as Davies says, it’s going to be hard work for the rest of the season.

After what was arguably their best performance of the season, they are in the right form at the right time.
