Scotland name their squad for France 2007

Scotland coach Frank Hadden has named 17 forwards and 13 backs in his 30-man squad for the Rugby World Cup, and one of them is uncapped Glasgow flanker John Barclay. To cover for injury niggles, there are three hookers and three scrum-halves in the squad, but no places for fly-half Gordon Ross or winger Simon Danielli.
Hadden came out with the usual comments on how difficult it is to leave players out of the final squad, but added when speaking to the BBC: “I have selected a squad that has the ability to do something special at the World Cup."

It’s a first taste of World Cup rugby for 20 members of the squad, but Chris Paterson and Scott Murray are taking part in their third tournament.

The Scots are in Pool C, where they face New Zealand, Italy, Romania and Portugal. Their clash with Italy, which should decide the second quarter-final qualifying spot, is one of the most eagerly anticipated pool games in the tournament.

The Scotland squad, which includes players from clubs in England, Wales and France as well as Scotland, is: Backs: M Blair (Edinburgh), C Cusiter (Perpignan), R Dewey (Ulster), M Di Rollo (Edinburgh), A Henderson (Glasgow Warriors), R Lamont (Sale Sharks), S Lamont (Northampton), R Lawson (Gloucester), D Parks (Glasgow Warriors), C Paterson (Gloucester), H Southwell (Edinburgh), N Walker (Ospreys), S Webster (Edinburgh).

Good squad. I think Scotland will surprise many at the WC. I hope so.
