Georgia name squad for their second RWC
By Sasha Distel August 15 2007
Georgia have named their squad for the Rugby World Cup in France … and most people will never have heard of a single one of them. On the other hand, they might have heard of them, but their names are so long and unusual, that most of us would struggle to remember them.
But apparently, the squad is full of experience, with 13 players who were in Australia four years ago for the country’s first-ever RWC, when they lost all their games.Half a dozen members of the squad have more than 40 caps, and they’ll need all the experience and fitness they can muster in Pool D, where they face hosts France, Ireland, Argentina and Namibia. They beat Namibia 26-18 when they met in the IRB Nations Cup in Romania in June. The Georgia squad (spot the spelling errors) is:Forwards: Goderdzi Shvelidze, Avtandil Kopaliani, Mamuka Magrakvelidze, David Khinchagashvili, David Zirakashvili, Akvsenti Giorgadze, Ilia Zedginidze (Captain), Victor Didebulidze, Mamuka Gorgodze, Levan Datunashvili, Grigol Labadze, Besarion Udesian, Rati Urushadze, Giorgi Chkhkaidze, Zviad Maisuradze, Ilia Maisuradze. Backs: Pavle Jimsheladze, Otar Barkalaia, Merab Kvirikashvili, Besiki Khamashuridze, Irakli Machkhaneli, Giorgi Shkinin, Giorgi Elizbarashvili, Otar Eloshvili, Malkhaz Urjukashvili, Irakli Giorgadze, David Kacharava, Revaz Guigauri, Irakli Abuseridze, Bidzina Samkharadze
