There’s a huge World Cup boost for Ireland as captain Brian O’Driscoll has been declared fit for his team’s opening World Cup Pool D match against Namibia in Bordeaux. He was expected to miss the first game on Sunday because of injury, but he and flanker David Wallace have both been passed fit.
O’Driscoll was suffering from a fractured sinus after the bruising warm-up game in Bayonne and was not expected to be fit for at least another week, while Wallace had an ankle injury. The only big-name player missing from the Ireland side is winger Shane Horgan, whose place goes to Andrew Trimble. Horgan is expected to be fit for Ireland’s second Pool game, against  Georgia."It's great to have Brian O'Driscoll back as captain so quickly. He means a lot to the team," O'Sullivan told BBC Sport. "Brian was given the all-clear on his fractured sinus earlier this week and he took a full part in training. "David has also come on well. We had earmarked this game for his return and everything was on schedule. Ireland: G Dempsey: A Trimble, B O'Driscoll, capt, G D'Arcy, D Hickie; R O'Gara, P Stringer; M Horan, R Best, J Hayes, D O'Callaghan, P O'Connell, S Easterby, D Leamy, D Wallace.
Replacements: J Flannery, N Best, M O'Kelly, S Best, I Boss, P Wallace, G Murphy.
