Random Antipodean Ravings 2
It has long been a point of complaint that the Southern Hemisphere Tri Nations have needlessly snubbed Argentina for years.
There are problems involved with the TriNations becoming a quartet, not least the fact that a large number of Argentine internationals play for European clubs who would be loath to release them for a Southern Hemisphere competition. Other problems include misplaced elitism and time schedules for the TV mandarins. Often they cite travel and time zone problems. If travel and time zones are the trouble then South Africa is just as big a problem as Argentina. As to super 14 or whatever it has become, Argentina might be able to produce one domestic team for it.
A man who has a big say in all things SANZAR is John O'Neill and he has recently formed the opinion that the Pumas have earned a place in the competition.
Australian Rugby Union supremo John O'Neill believed Argentina's World Cup upset of France deserved the reward of admission into an expanded Tri Nations.
But O'Neill confirmed it could not occur until 2011 at the earliest when the current SANZAR broadcasting deal expires.
O'Neill told AAP he couldn't argue with an Argentinian official after the 17-12 win in Paris when the IRB delegate asked him: "What more do we have to do?"
What indeed?
