Unbeaten Argentina hold on to knock-out Scotland
By Sasha Distel October 7 2007
Not content with watching France and England dump New Zealand and Australia out of the Rugby World Cup, Argentina have made a bit of history themselves by reaching the semi-finals for the first time by beating Scotland 19-13 in a close-fought quarter-final. They face South Africa in next weekend's semi-final, a day after hosts France clash with holders England.

The unbeaten Pumas will be second favourites when they take on South Africa in the semi-final next weekend, but they have been underestimated before in this competition – ask France – and they keep on proving they are now a world force to be reckoned with.
Fly-half Juan Martin Hernandez is clearly world class, but he’s not the only one and Scots coach frank hadden said: “They are a very difficult side to play against.
“We didn’t play well enough – we wanted to play better than that. It took us a bit too long to get into the game.”
The Scots finished well, a late try from Chris Cussiter brilliantly converted by Chris Paterson giving them hope, but it wasn’t enough and the battling Pumas held on after dominating the first hour of the match.

So the final will be Southern Hemisphere v Northern Hemisphere, and the clever money will be on it being South Africa v France. But the clever money was on Australia and New Zealand and on Argentina to go out long before now.Argentina 19
