After Saturday, certain areas of the Gloucester team were highlighted as weak areas that need to improve for us to progress as a team, and it seems that Nigel Melville also realises this. Expect Thinus Delport to start at full back, with James Simpson-Daniel and either Garvey or Beim on the wings.
It was also highlighted in certain papers this morning (Tuesday), that because of us going out of Europe, we could lose up to £250,000. According to Ken Nottage this is a severe loss, and players will be sacrificed at the end of the season because of it.
The key areas for me that need to be improved are:
Centres. Todd and Fanolua are too similar to play next to each over. James Simpson-Daniel must eventually move to centre, and for now Henry Paul (while he is here) should fill the role at outside.
Fly Half? Ludo's kicking has often got us out of tricky situations, both between the posts and to touch. His other play has greatly improved. For me he is a more than adequate fly-half, but others may disagree.
Full Back. Simple really. Our South African specialist full back Thinus Delport MUST play here more often to get back in to the role.
Back Row. It was probably the best in the Premiership, but lately has become a bit too heavy. James Forrester needs to play more, especially as the pitches get harder as the weather improves.
Hooker. Oliver Azam is probably one of our greatest players when it comes to mauling, tackling, rucking etc, but his lineout throws simply aren't accurate enough at the minute. Why don't we let someone else take the lineouts? There is no rule saying that it must be the hooker.
Lineout. An absolute shambles lately. Cornwell is fantastic, but the calls and throws must be sorted out. Fidler is not much of a lineout jumper.
To Saturday. According to our friend Large, Saracens are terrible when it comes to defending the rolling maul, one of our specialties. If we wear them out by keeping the ball in the forwards, we should easily set up a platform for a big win, if we can release the likes of Simpson-Daniel and Garvey. Junior Paramore may not start because of a neck injury, which (heard on the grapevine), may keep him out for some time.
Predicted Score: Gloucester 35-12 Saracens.
