No Magic from John Dixon's injury-ravaged men

Action from Murrayfield
By Chris O'Brien
May 4 2009
The Huddersfield Giants simply went through the motions as they cruised to a 40-16 Murrayfield Magic victory over the Celtic Crusaders on Sunday. The result condemns John Dixon’s injury-ravaged side to their eleventh consecutive Super League defeat of the new campaign. Tries from Chris Beasley, Anthony Blackwood and David Tangato-Toa provided little consolation for Cru's travelling support.

The Giants cruised to an easy victory and Brett Hodgson opened the scoring after only four minutes before Danny Kirmond and Scott Moore put the Yorkshire outfit into a commanding early lead.

Hooker Shaun Lunt helped Huddersfield to a 22-0 lead at the break on his way to a brace of tries. Huddersfield were powering to the line at almost every opportunity and when Michael Korkidas scored a massacre looked on the cards.

Cru, however, showed some second-half resilience. Winger Paul Ballard had an effort ruled out by the video referee before Beasley gave the travelling Welsh contingent something to cheer.

Simon Finnigan strengthened Huddersfield's lead; though late tries from Blackwood and Tangato-Toa at least gave the scoreline an air of respectability.

30,122 watched Sunday's action in Edinburgh as Leeds Rhinos beat Catalans, Hull edged out Castleford and Hull KR beat Warrington. Saturday's games saw Harlequins beat Salford, Bradford comfortably see of Wakefield and Wigan stun St Helens with a fine 38-18 victory.
