Scorpions bag 82 points against Thunder

Welsh derby

The South Wales Scorpions eased to an 82-18 win over South Wales Thunder in a friendly match on Sunday afternoon. Anthony Seibold’s men bagged fifteen tries as a host of young and inexperienced players were given the nod against the Welsh Conference Select XIII.

When Lee Jenkins charged over after two minutes, it looked as though the Scorpions could be set for an embarrassing defeat against local select amateur side South Wales Thunder.

However, the Scorpions soon stamped their authority on proceedings and ultimately went on to claim an 82-18 win in an open and entertaining clash in Carmarthen.

Shaun Owens ran over a hat-trick for the Championship One club, while former Blue Bull Roets and Steve Parry bagged two tries apiece. Lewis Reece and Joe Burke also celebrated a brace each.

Harri Greville, Jamie Murphy, Jamie Tibbs and Loren Quick also got on the scoresheet as the Scorpions ran over an impressive fifteen tries.

Thunder will be pleased to have scored on three occasions - but the Scorpions will be equally pleased with the run-out and the emphatic scoreline.

The game gave a number of younger Scorpions the chance to impress as the club prepare for two daunting away trips at Doncaster and York.
