White bags hat-trick as Scorps claim super win

On an epic day for Welsh rugby league, the South Wales Scorpions kept their play-off hopes on track with a surprise 42-24 win at Oldham. The Roughyeds, sitting second in the table, were comprehensively thumped by Anthony Seibold's men who now look an increasingly good bet for a top seven finish.

With the Crusaders also bagging a win, this was a superb day for rugby league in the Principality.

After last week's heavy defeat at Rochdale, the Scorpios responded in style with a superb win that keeps hopes of a top seven finish firmly on track.

Lloyd White bagged two early tries - converting them both - for the South Walians, though Lucas Onyongo's converted try soon got the hosts back into contention.

The prolific Steve Parry charged over with Loz Wildbore's conversion re-opening a twelve point lead; though Oldham grabbed an important score before the interval as the arrears were reduced to six points.

The Scorpions, however, burst out of the traps after half-time. Andrew Gay weaved his way through the Oldham backline before Casey Bromilow showed great pace on a 100-yard run to score.

Roughyeds briefly threatened a comeback before Lloyd White bagged his hat-trick with a converted try and then notched over three successive penalties to ensure a very impressive 42-24 win at the Whitebank Stadium.

Next up for the Scorpions is a very winnable Championship I clash against Doncaster at the Gnoll. That games follows the Welsh Conference final at noon on the 8th of August. The play-offs are starting to look within grasp.

Full Time -
Oldham Roughyeds 24-42 South Wales Scorpions
Attendance - TBC

A great trip and a great result, by far best the best performance of the season, the defensive effort on the try line particularly by Dallimore and Gilly ,my MOM was immense in keeping out a determined but blunt Oldham attacking edge. Holdinging up two tries on the line when under immense pressure in the first half being the best example.

Attendance was 908 , biggest crowd for a match we've been involved in surely? Proper non League football ground as well, no luxuries so thankl god the weather stayed dry.
