Scorpions win first silverware with XIIs plate

Plate winners

The South Wales Scorpions claimed their first piece of silverware on August 29th at the Aberavon Greenstars sevens tournament. A host of Scorpions fringe players were in action, as well as manager Anthony Seibold, as the Scorpions bounced back from an early defeat to Maesteg to bag the consolation of winning the Plate.

After a 17-9 defeat to Maesteg in their opening fixture, the Scorpions bounced back with wins over Aberavon Naval, Young Pups and student-based side SSS to win the competition's Plate.

Head coach Anthony Seibold was in action alongside Ian Gibbons, Lewis Reece, Liam Roach, Harri Greville, Sam Studley, Andrew Gay, Dalton Grant, Curtis Cunningham and Alan Pope.

It's perhaps a little ironic that the Scorpions' first piece of silverware came in a variant of rugby union - but this was a confidence booster for some of the squad's fringe players.

Results:

Scorpions 9-17 Maesteg RFC
Scorpions 47-5 Aberavon Naval
Scorpions 42-12 Young Pups
Scorpions 49-14 SSS
