The South Wales Scorpions failed to build on last week’s win over Gateshead, suffering defeat at Workington Town. Despite a brace of tries from Harri Greville and scores from Ashley Bateman and Andrew Gay, the Cumbrian hosts beat their Welsh visitors 38-24.
Workington ran over seven tries in the 1pm kick-off
at Derwent Park.
Jarrad Stack ran over two of the home side’s seven tries as they bagged their
second win of the new campaign.
Mark Rowley’s Scorpions have now lost four of their five competitive outings
this season and will struggle to improve that record against league leaders
Swinton in a fortnight’s time.
Full Time – Workington Town RLFC 38-24 South
To let in 7 tries is not what you need, there must be stacks of work on defence the next 2 weeks. We need to tighten the flagship before the lions hit town,mr m'cormack will exploit every chink in our armour if let be.A slick coach with some big time players to call on,so lets get stuck into them from the offset. No doubt swinton will expect a warm welcome in neath,so dont let them down boys and lets get our season up and running.RESPECT is only earned-not handed out
I watched Swinton Sunday against Gateshead. Thunder gave them no respect and were deservedly 18-4 up after half an hour. Swinton then realised they were in a game and used their superior speed on the flanks to great effect, going in at half time 28-18 up. I expected Swinton to score 40-0 in the second half but Gateshead stuck to their task, did'nt let their heads drop and came out of the game with a creditable result. To be fair though, don't get too carried away because Swinton rested some of their better players.
