1972 was a unique Five Nations tournament as Scotland and Wales declined to play in Dublin following the unrest arising out of Bloody Sunday. Ireland finished tantalisingly with two wins from two difficult away encounters while Wales recorded three triumphs from three outings. It was such a great pity that the competition was not completed. Tries were now awarded four points, and not before time!
