2008/09 fixtures

Opening visitors
By Leipziger
July 4 2008
It’s the most exciting day of the summer – the day the league fixtures are announced for the coming season. For the third time in four seasons we begin the campaign at home to Sale, the second year in a row this fixture has occurred on the opening day. From there we host Northampton before travelling south to Saracens, ending 2008/09 at Harlequins at the end of April.

Falcons fixtures:

06/09/2008      Sale (H)

13/09/2008      Northampton (H)

20/09/2008      Saracens (A)

27/09/2008      Bristol (H)

01/10/2008      Gloucester (A)

15/11/2008      London Irish (H)

22/11/2008      Worcester (A)

29/11/2008      London Wasps (H)

20/12/2008      Leicester (A)

27/12/2008      Worcester (H)

03/01/2008      London Irish (A)

10/01/2008      Gloucester (H)

14/02/2008      Bristol (A)

21/02/2008      Saracens (H)

28/02/2008      Northampton (A)

07/03/2008      Sale (A)

14/03/2008      Harlequins (H)

21/03/2008      Bath (A)

28/03/2008      Leicester (H)

04/04/2008      London Wasps (A)

18/04/2008      Bath (H)

25/05/2008      Harlequins (A)

Please note all fixtures are on the weekend of the date shown, and none are yet confirmed.  Even the Gloucester Wednesday night one, I’d be surprised if that went ahead as planned.  So don’t book anything in stone for these particular days.

If the trip to Kingsholm is a Wednesday nighter (I’ve already booked the Thursday off work just in case), Bristol at home is a good candidate for a Friday Night Live.

Another interesting quirk is that this is the first time in four seasons that Worcester has not been scheduled to be our last away match, and the season before it was our first!

The season’s getting closer, time to start getting excited, or ratchet up the apprehension if that is your thing!

It'll seem odd seeing Spud in a Sharkies shirt for the first game.

Never thought of that, but you're right. It looks weird just seeing Toby Flood (Leicester) and Mathew Tait (Sale) in the England squad announcement!

Sunday afternoon is the "normal" time for home matches.

Looking at that opening month who else thinks we could be top at the end of September?

...and as in all walks of life, that could breed confidence and momentum for the long, hard season ahead as predicted by most. Possibly allowing us to surprise a few people (including contributors of this board)

(Ducks in anticipation of allegation of marble loss!)

Just one weekend. There's two in the middle of the EDF, two in December, and then two presumably in January after Gloucester at home.
