So if we and Brive both win we are through, only question is whether we are 6th, 7th or 8th seed. Simple enough.

Away at either Worcester or, yet again, Brive and, in the unlikely event of a Falcons away win, an away semi-final against the Irish or Saints. We should jack this cup in and concentrate on trying to survive in the league.

Terrible idea. Though I fear Bates will play a reserve team in the quarters, especially if we are still not safe.

As a point of pedantry, after Round 5 Brive have also qualified; the only debate is whether they go through as Pool Winners (4th or 5th seed) or runners up (6th or 7th seed)

If they lost & Cannacht win with a 5 pointer is that the case? Then Parma would go through as pool winners and Us, Brive and Connacht would all have 19 points. We'd beat Brive having scored more tries in the matches between us but would Connacht sneak ahead of Brive. Surely you couldn't have 3 teams from the same group?

Re: ECC Qualification Status

Within a group the head-to-head results count before the number of tries. So if Parma win we'd be third in the group and out. I wouldn't mind that at all as we're not going to win the cup and could concentrate on the league.

Rule book please Touchline.

If clubs in the same Pool are equal the first test is match points in the games between the clubs.

Having lost in Brive and at last weekend at home, we're not second in our group if Parma win tonight. And you can't qualify as third placed.

Now where are those on-line pictures butty??

It seems we're not members of the European Television something or other. Hasn't Gordon signed us up to that yet.

Why don't we just wait until after the weekend, it will be dead easy to establish who's through and who's not then.

Wow, we've got the best defensive record in the league.

When was the last time we could claim that?

1998?

Away to Sarries in Match C is my prediction

Sarries pack looked good against the French tonight, although the census man got done in the scrum.Tough game at the Vicarage, but with Sicknote back we might just have a chance.

Re: ECC Qualification Status

Connacht got 5 points last night so are on 19 the same as we'll be with a 5 pointer today. They have only scored 20 tries though whereas we only have 17 so far, so the 4 tries we need for the BP will take us ahead of them and make us 6th playing Sarries. A 4 pointer would probably give us Saints as we'd qualify 7th.

Seems like we got the short straw in the tin-pot.Brive qualify, and all the other French teams are disinterested, even Connacht creamed the Dax mob.Toulon,Montpellier,Mont de Marsan,Bayonne etc couldn't care less!

Re: ECC Qualification Status

That's true and it would also have been better to play Brive at home first. But it's hard to see beyond the Irish. They look to be the best side in the comp by a margin and will be at home until the final. Certainly can't see the Falcons beating them.

41-5, Are we going to be beaten by that much?

We'll put a cricket score on them, Bates will enthuse about how everything he's be working on has finally come together and this is the turning point for the future and Thumper will give him the job for life.

So we're sitting pretty then?

WE should have beat Brive, we'd then have been good for the SF possibly.

It was criminal that we didn't beat Brive, a little bit of savvy and we would have. That's the problem we play without common sense or tactics most of the time. Only the coaches to blame for that.

Sitty pretty? You could say that. Apart from Bristol who had Saints in their group, the only GP team in the Tinpot Cup who didn't win their Pool. Another claim to fame for the Master.

Quarter Final lineups

Match A Irish v Bourgoin

Match B Saints v Connacht

Match C Sarries v Falcons

Match D Wuss v Brive

Parma are unlucky as they got more points that Bourgoin but the rules say the 3 runners up places come from the second placed team in each group

Semifinals are then

Match A winner v Match D winner
March B winner v Match C winner

Club may nominate 3 additonal players after the pool stages of which one must be in a front row position
