Luke Gross, signed from Rotherham, may not be a familiar name to many people but although he didn’t take up rugby until the age of 24 Luke will be our fourth most capped International after Matt Burke (80), Colin Charvis (71) and Stuart Grimes (63) with 62 games for the USA since his debut in January 1996 v Ireland. The 34 year old, born in Decatur, Indiana on 21 Nov 1969 is a giant of a man at 6ft 9inches and almost 19˝ stone and will add much need beef to our pack and experience having played in two World Cups.

Married to Sarah, Luke has played for Cincinnati Wolfhounds, Harlequins, Rovigo & Rome and Llanelli before joining Rotherham last season.

For a big man Luke is surprisingly mobile and has excellent ball handling skills having been a college basketball player in his youth at Marshall University. His player has always been uncompromising and committed, something our pack has lacked too often in recent years.

Despite all his caps he has never scored an international try though lists his most embarrassing moment as thinking he had scored a try from a maul but turned out to be on the 22m line!
