Called Noonie by everyone, he has become a permanent feature of the starting line up with a record 50 premiership successive starts and over 100 premiership starts in total. Statistics on Noonie could go on and on, rating highly in successes in turnovers made, metres made, and so many more that the question keeps on arising as to why he does not feature in the England team.

Well, the 2004/05 season may well see a positive answer at last as he has been named in the Elite Player Squad alongside team mates Jonny Wilkinson and Mathew Tait. He has featured on the fringes of the England team for some time, most recently as part of the England "A" team in the Churchill Cup. He played in all 3 tests on England’s summer tour of North America in 2001, and has had success with England sevens. He was selected as part of the 2003 World Cup squad but was disappointed at having to return when the squad was cut from 43 to 30.

Competition for his place in an England team will always be strong due to the number of good players at centre & wing, but his chances are looking better than ever.

Noon is another success for the Falcons Academy, having arrived there straight from school as someone new to the game at the age of 16. His commitment to the team is enormous, and in the dark days of April 2003 he vowed to stick with the team through thick & thin. "If Newcastle go down, I will go with them and try to help them to get back up." This is a rare quality in a player in these more mercenary times, and could explain why he is consistently a favourite of Falcons supporters.

It's going to be a big season for the 2003/04 Falcons Player of the Year.

        Newcastle Falcons Poll

Do you think the coaching team of Alan Tait and Paul Moriarty should be replaced?
