Born and raised in Christchurch, Cory only took up rugby at age 17, and had been tipped to be a volleyball player up until that point, before opting for the far more sensible option. Arrived at Kingston Park via Wales, where he started at Pontypridd in 2000 after spending his early career with NPC side Canterbury. After winning the Principality Cup in his second season at Sardis Road, he moved to Bridgend in 2002 and helped them to the last professional Welsh Premiership title. Signed by the Celtic Warriors (one of five new Welsh regional sides, the Warriors being the amalgamation of Pontypridd and Bridgend) in the summer of 2003 ahead of the first season-long Celtic League, Harris gained a high reputation amongst the club’s fans in their Heineken Cup campaign, in which he played in all six group games. Forced to look for a new club after the Warriors' disbanded and having not been picked up by any of the other four sides, Cory spent the early months of 2004-05 playing in the Welsh Premiership with Bridgend Ravens, waiting for residence to qualify him to play for the Welsh national side in November.

Signed by Rob Andrew in October 2004 as a senior specialist openside, in response to the departure of Warren Britz to Natal Sharks that summer and the retirement of Andrew Mower. Debuted for the Falcons on Bonfire Night 2004 at Edgeley Park in the Premiership game against Sale. Has now chalked-up 38 starts for the Falcons, plus three as a replacement, and has six tries to his name, his first in the home defeat to Worcester towards the end of the 2004-05 season.

Fact: Cory does not count as a foreign player for the Falcons as his wife Gail, whom he met in New Zealand, is from Warrington.
