Gateshead-born Sean is a former student at Emmanuel College, Gateshead, who on leaving enrolled at Northumbria University to study surveying. Of rugby stock, his father Alan was one of Scotland’s greatest locks, winning 48 caps between 1976-87.
Sean was selected for the Scotland U19s in 2003 and made his international U21 debut in a warm-up match for the World Cup in a narrow defeat to Ireland at Murrayfield in May 2004. He went on to represent Scotland at lock in two U21 World Cups, in 2004 in Scotland and in 2005 in Argentina. Sean joined the Falcons Senior Academy in the summer of 2005, although he had been part of the Development Team playing and training part-time before that. He was promoted to the first team squad this summer.
Fact: His Dad played his club rugby for Gateshead Fell and Hawick and was in the Lions squad (along with Clive Woodward) that toured South Africa in 1980.
