And save the best until last?

Voyce no more

The sun shone. The wasteland that the Gasroom complain about, as being unfit for 4th Division football, was in pristine nick. Two sides with objectives : the visitors with a GP playoff berth to achieve, the hosts to give themselves an outside chance of a HEC spot, with a 7th place finish?

Much emotion in the home camp with hordes departing to Castle Grim, the €, mountains of foie gras, return to the Emerald Isle and retirement.

I will not dwell on the facts of the match too much, save to say that Wasps won by 4 tries to nil. Playing with freedom, purpose, exuberance (sometimes a bit too youthful), but hey ho, what a joy to behold.

Players with smiles on their faces, wanting part of the action. The real Wasps were on the park today and boy, did it show.

When reduced to 14 men, nothing was allowed to pass – the brick wall sentries of Worzel and Serge saw to that.

Two tries (by departing brethren Riki and Tom) to the good at HT, the adoring masses in the sellout crowd bayed for more. Boy Wonder departed at this juncture, mercifully only precautionary.

Sortie after sortie into the opposition 22 followed, to no avail. Some of it down to the curious interpretation of the man who really did need to go to Specsavers.

Monsieur Capitaine denied by one such decision, but help was at hand. A gift wrapped present for Riki’s second try.

With a try BP in sight for the second week running and news from Edgeley Park that Sale were in front against Stains, the Black and Gold hordes surged forward in search of their nirvana.

Into stoppage time, another surge towards the Glaws line resulted in the ball being held up just short, but the giraffe of a man, shortly destined to become a Lion again, plunged all of his 2 metre plus frame for the line. Objective achieved to the relief of all the players and supporters alike.

Uncontested scrums!!!!!!!

Lions depart, a Shark(y) in the second row, the clock running down and the ball in the hands of the soon to be retired idol. Sadly, the Red Sea would not part and allow him the finish that all in Black and Gold wished for.

Time up. Much elation, emotion, farewells. Evens Sacks had a smile on his face during the post match perambulation!

Light at the end of the tunnel? (Just think of what might have been, this season!)

Ah! The beauty of the light touch. An excellent example of Less is More.

I listened to this over the internet. It was a rare occasion when listening that I was not a bundle of nerves. I find listening to a game normally far worse than watching it.
