The case of the missing polls

Fancy a party here?

Mea Culpa. As an editing team we have failed towards the end of this season - in a lot of areas but most obviously in the Man of the Match votes. We've missed-out on the end-of-season match votes which is a shame on its own but the main problem is that historically we've given the site's Player of the Season award to the player who collected the most MotM awards...

I like this system, it's thrown-out some surprising but fair results over the years. Essentialy it evens the vote out over the year. Most Player of the Season awards are skewed by end-of-season heroics whereas ours has been awarded to consistently good play over he entire year. It'd be a shame to lose that even with the joy of Premiership re-qualification.

So, there's the dilemma. The excuses are many and varied, my main one is that I changed jobs over the past copule of months, along with a (reasonably lengthy) holiday to the far east, which meant I wasn't around to pick up. MickeyMouse had a lot of work commitments too (and also went away).

My original solution was that I was going to bang-up the nominations en-masse and simply run a load of polls at once but it occurs to me that this has the same problem that other PotS awards have - people would vote for guys that did well in the final couple of games. Also now we're in the off-season we've probably shed a lot of the regulars so the voter-base would be narrower. People have possibly got fed up of voting at the moment too...

So here's my solution: I've collated all the nominations and detailed them below along with my suggestion for the winner of each one based on the nomination thread. I've collated all the nominations and honourable mentions.

So, unless I get an out-cry, that's what I'm going to record in the results archive. To be honest I wondered if it would be best to give honourable-mentions a weighted value less than a full nomination or to simply take them as a tie-break but as it happens it wouldn't matter.

Most of the results are fairly clear. There are a few that are close but I don't think any of them are unfair only the final final was settled by HM with Blair losing to Alex by one mention.

I'm going to put a poll up to ratify-or-not these results. The choices I'll include are:

i) Accept all results
ii) Accept all but (Yorkshire Carnegie at home 24/5 - goes to poll)
iii) Reject these - poll all of them.
iv) Other - comment what you'd like.

None of these are wrong, vote how you feel. Obviously I'd prefer i) but I'm not going to vote. If we go for poll-all I've already done the collection of the nominations so I can bang them up quite easily.

Important Note: I've deliberately not looked at the other winners yet so I've no idea how this will affect Player of the Season - I'd ask anyone joining-in to do the same. It may be it doesn't make a difference but I'd like it to be fair.

Funnily enough that was another article... Thanks Finno, I'll still publish the article (gotta keep-alive somehow) but you'll get a "call" regardless of your response to that :-)
