Premiership fixtures for 2017/18 are out!

By Griff
July 7 2017

With Irish back in the premiership we've been waiting here at Craic HQ for the fixtures with quite some relish. Would we get a hellish start? Who would be our London Double Header opposition? Who's up for Paddy's Day? Do we get a home Christmas/New Year game? Well, the waiting is over...

The fixtures are out (and will be up on here when I get a few minutes to myself) and it's really nice to be back playing teams we know.

September

For the start of the season we take-on the auld enemy - Quins up for the double-header. I had heard that Quins were dropping out (or had been dropped) so it's interesting to see them still taking-part. It's interesting to see Northampton Saints as Saracens opposition in the other match. We follow that with a trip to Exeter to take on the champions! Then up to Sale and then we welcome Saints to the MadSatd before ending the month with a trip to see how we measure-up to newly improved Newcastle. It's a fascinating start to the season but it does give some opportunities to make an impact early-doors.

October

An impact we're going to need... A pretty chilly start to the winter comes in the form of a visit from Leicester and then a trip to Saracens, any early form will need to hold if we're going to pass Halloween with much in the way of hope.

November

Two home fixtures for November see Bath and Wasps visiting. We'll need to make the MadStad a fortress!

December

Trips to Kingsholm and then Sixways (or whatever it's called by then) for Christmas before ringing-in the New Year with Newcastle. This will be a disappointment for the club I feel since the post-Xmas game is usually the opportunity to get a big crowd in but I can't see many Geordies wanting the trek all this way for New Year.

January

For 2018 we open the year with a visit to Welford Road to see the Tigers, let's hope they've had a few too many Christmas sherries...

February

Visits from Sale and Worcester bookend February with a trip to see the Saints. Once this lot are over we should know if we're off the pace, in a fight for the coveted 11th place or looking like we're safe.

March

We make a trip to Coventry to see Wasps first thing in March and then end the month welcoming Gloucester.

April/May

We end the campaign with a trip to The Stoop before getting fortress Madejski ready for Exeter and then Saracens. We end the season on the 5th of May in Bath. The run-in looks pretty tough.

To be fair it all looks pretty tough. If you caught any of the Premiership last season you'll have seen it move up a gear in our absence. This season is going to be a challenge, one we need to succeed in. The boys are going need us all the way. Get yourselves ready folks! I can't wait.

Re the LDH, we're at home, I presume Quins only get to refuse their home game...

At least it is a softer start to the season than we have had previously

It's as good a start to the season as we could have hoped for. Individually all five fixtures are winnable. Chiefs away is the toughest fixture on paper, but they don't always start the season brilliantly, so fingers crossed we can catch them cold.

Is going to be tough, as all teams have progressed since we were last there, and I reckon we will have a very, very good idea by the end of September whether we are good enough to stay up.

Unbelievably fair start to the season compared with ours (Bristol) in the previous.

Must have some friends in the PRL. Good luck and hope you stay up. Yoyoing isn't good for anyone.

Just the way it's fallen. We had the worst possible starting draw 2 years ago and never recovered.
