I may not be there yet but I知 closer than yesterday

A stirring party atmosphere, some sunshine and a team too good for the opposition. Irish were too strong for our Yorkshire visitors who played some good rugby and competed strongly, especially before half time.

Once again it seems that we get stronger as the game goes on and our scrum certainly increased the pressure when the subs came on. Good to see Gordon Reid back in place.

Given the final score of 49-12 it is worth noting that it took 20 minutes for the first score and I think Irish were the dominant force early on but failed to take the chances on offer as first Loader then Stephenson went close. Irish played with some dash and verve and although Doncaster kept the defence honest it wasn’t long before Irish came forward again with the final part of the move still elusive.

Doncaster are much improved since Christmas and battled hard but 2 quick tries set Irish on the road to victory. First Stephenson, enjoying a great season, and then Albert Tuisue went over with Keatley converting both. Doncaster hit back and at 14-7 it seemed game on.

The next score demonstrated all that’s good about Ben Loader’s speed and skill as he fielded a Knights kick and his pure acceleration took him through and away. A good score and Irish went into the half time ahead and in control of the game.

After the break Irish looked to open up their play and tries followed for Porecki, Stephenson and the impressive Keatley. Doncaster scored near the end but Irish finished the scoring with Maddison (Barney not Charlie as in The Rugby Paper) crashing over. Porecki has played really well for Irish and good to see him score (again) on his 50th appearance.

The subs all made a difference and Irish were convincing winners. Keeping Doncaster to 12 points was a good return for the defence and we have the players to score tries. In this game we didn’t rely overly on the forwards and scored from several positions, line out maul, burst from inside our own half and via some strong running on the wings.

Keatley has been very impressive since joining and I thought McLean had a very strong game.

We have 4 games left starting with Pirates away – we’ll need to be at our best and I hope we see the same team out again as we go in search of the points that will take us back up.
