One of our 2005 summer series is a supporters 'If you could', the series continues with one of our regular posters - AlecW. Throughout the off season we plan to learn a little bit more about many of our 'Usual Suspects'

Don’t know – not in to “celebrities”
Be a sports star for the day who would it be? Tiger Woods
Have dinner with 4 people from the past or present who would they be? Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Isabella Rosselini, Elizabeth 1st
Witness one event from history what would it be?

Eruption of Vesuvius, AD 79 (from a safe distance…!)
Go back in time and give advice to a 13 year old Alec Whewell what would it be? Don’t wait 18 years to give up smoking. Better still, don’t start
Win any sporting event in the world what would it be?

The Ashes – England v Australia
Try out a new sport what would it be? Bobsleigh
Have one extravagance what would it be? A superb library with comfy leather armchairs
Only ever eat one meal again what would it be? Fresh Lobster salad, mayonnaise

I once saved the son of a (then) major rock star from serious injury or worse
See into the future what do you expect to be doing in 10 years time?

Ideally retired, living the winter in Italy & the summer in the UK. Unlikely though!
Only ever drink one drink again what would it be?

Champagne – Mumm de Cramant or (if we’re pushing the boat out) Krug rose
Do any other job other than your current one what would it be?

Sports journalist: to be paid for watching top class rugby & cricket! Bliss…!
Change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Less prone to worrying, particularly over the fate of a certain rugby club!
Buy one player from past or present to play in London Irish colours who would it be? Colin Earl Meads – mid ’60s vintage. Just the “hard-as-nails, go forward bastard” we need”
