If you could............. JamesC - James Christie
Relive any 'non-sports related' moment in your life, what would it be and why?

My wedding to Alice 20 years ago – one of the best organised events I have been to (nothing to do with me) and one of my (joint) best decisions.

Enjoy a 'champagne moment' again in your career which one would it be and why? Getting the news that I had passed my final accounting exams on the last day of my honeymoon in Turkey. Boring but a good start to married life I can assure you.
Enjoy a 'champagne moment' again in sport which one would it be and why?

Very close run between County Championship Final between Cornwall and Yorkshire on 20 April 1991 and London Irish v Northampton on 20 April 2002. Overall I would have to say that the PG Cup just tips the balance due to the contrast with expectation at start of the day, even though the first game went to extra time. Both great days out with superb supporters.

Not be asked one question for the rest of your life what would it be? “How long is it until we get there ?” Of course in future years I will probably miss this and become rather nostalgic.
Be a celebrity for the day who would you be?

Bill Gates – the income for the day would keep me and family going for a long time !

Be a sports star for the day who would it be? Babe Ruth in Yankee Stadium for the World Series preferably against the Boston Red Sox.
Have dinner with 4 people from the past or present who would they be? Alexander the Great, Duke of Wellington, Samuel Pepys and Robert E Lee. A rather military theme but Sam would stop us getting too serious.
Witness one event from history what would it be?

Battle of Thermopylae where 300 Spartans beat thousands of Persians. I remember it mainly for one of the best one liners ever – when told that the Persian spears and arrows were so great that they would blot out the sun a Spartan replied, “Then we shall have to fight in the shade”.

Go back in time and give advice to a 13 year old James Christie what would it be? Play hard, work hard but above all enjoy what you do. Make sure you put back in more than you take out.
Win any sporting event in the world what would it be?

Rugby World Cup as a team sport. Wimbledon as an individual event.

Try out a new sport what would it be? Foxhunting  - might have to learn to ride first.
Have one extravagance what would it be? Morgan sports car in Brunswick Green. I would be useless at looking after it though.
Only ever eat one meal again what would it be?

Steak and kidney pudding, roast parsnips  with pint of Guinness

Live anywhere else in the world where would it be? Italy – preferably near Perugia.
Support any other Rugby Club which would it be and why? Windsor – where my son started to play the game at the age of 6. No other GP team.
Tell us a claim to fame what would it be?

I identified an unexploded  German WWII white phosphorous hand grenade by spotting the rusted socket for the wooden handle in a filled in machine gun pit, previously considered a Roman tree hole, on a large archaeological dig in Tuscan. As a result I was able to get the Carabinieri to blow it up safely thus saving several Italians from serious injury/death. Was a 24 hour hero and then it wore off.

See into the future what do you expect to be doing in 10 years time?

Still working hard but with two children who have just left university who hopefully come back home occasionally for non-laundry visits, possibly to see LI play in the HC on a regular basis.

Only ever drink one drink again what would it be?

A (large) bottle of very decent Barolo provided it has been opened well in advance, ideally 24 hours. With decent balloon wines glasses to bring out the bouquet properly as well.

Do any other job other than your current one what would it be? Archaeologist, but it would not cover the cost of my season ticket probably.
Change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Learn to cook properly and share some of the household duties a bit more than I do.

Buy one player from past or present to play in London Irish colours who would it be? Lawrence Dallaglio – a powerful mix of Italian, English and Irish blood and a real winner. Also a man who has come back from difficulties a stronger person. Would have liked to see him and Sheasby in the same team at LI. Would also be good to reverse the trend and get someone from Wasps as well.
