Kenya Harlequins Update 8/8/2007

Quins ended the season back on top of the Kenya Cup league with a 29-8 victory over a determined Nondies. The win saw Quins jump back to the top of the log with 50 points ahead of KCB who have 49 points but have a match in hand against Mean Machine on Sunday. The Quins faithful will be praying that Mean machine will pull off the miracle win against KCB and deny them a bonus point as well.
All religious denomination heads have been roped into this worthy cause!

Back to Saturday’s action. Quins began the game like a diesel lorry and found themselves 5 - 0 behind immediately on kick off. Thereafter more pressure from a determined Nondies saw them go 8-0 from a penalty. With Nondies forwards dominating the first 20 minutes it surely looked like Nondies were going to do the double on Quins.

However, Namcos Simiyu reduced the deficit to 8-3 with a penalty and suddenly Quins found some momentum in their game. Scrum-half David ‘Muttley’ Gitau playing against his old club started dictating the shots and holes begun to appear in the Nondies rearguard. Lewis Olaka took charge of the forwards and started the fightback upfront. It was no surprise that Quins found a space and Gitau scored his dream try against Nondies. Namcos was sure with the boot to give Quins a 10-8 lead at the break.

Coaches Odundo and Kinyany told off their charges at half-time and it was the Quins that we have for so long wanted to see that took the field in the second half. A dominating and Superior performance saw Quins completely destroy the white shirts with tries from Victor Sudi, David Mogere and Patrick Onyango. Final score 29-8 and it was at this point that the faithful should have been removing the champagne bottles but alas that was not meant to be as our fate lies now in that hands of Mean Machine. All in all it was a superb game to watch and well in lads.

The focus now shifts to the Enterprise Cup. Still plenty to play for!

Man of the Match: The were many with David Mogere, Daniel Kiptoo and Lewis Olaka among those who played their hearts out, but this weeks honour goes to George Odipo who had an excellent game coming off the bench. The big forward looks almost ready to step out of his shell and challenge for a permanent place in the starting line-up.
