GP Roadmap: Round 5 Preview: Bath
By Quaking Quin October 12 2007
Dean must be pretty pleased with the results so far. As we head into a period of more testing league & cup games what will be the DOR’s priorities? Quins have had a generally satisfying start to the second year of renewed GP life. With 15 points from 4 games Deano’s target of a top 6 finish is looking very achievable – the table below shows the club now hovering between 14pts for 6th & 17 for 4th

To stay on track this weekend against Barf our DOR will hope to come away from the Rec with a point for the team’s efforts.

The next few rounds of GP action will define Quins’ season and give a more accurate idea of the team’s potential.

A lot is made of the second season after promotion being the most difficult as opponents work out a new team’s tactics. However, Bristol re-wrote the script last year and no doubt the rugby sages will start to change the mantra if they struggle this year. Leeds already look doomed with a light-weight and inexperienced squad. They should soon be cast adrift once Wuzz and Wycombe Wanderers play more focused rugby although it does stretch the imagination to see the lads from Sixways living up to the Rugby Times prediction of a 4th place finish.

So what is Deano’s ambition for the season (other than taking ‘that’ job he has not yet been offered)? The simple answer is he wants to win a bit of Silverware to mark his time at the Stoop. That trophy cabinet hidden behind a large sofa outside the treatment room under the Lexus Stand does look rather sparse.

If Deano were to replace Brian (the Dynamo) Ashton it would not be until the end of this season because he wants to be remembered as a winner at Quins. The GP title is unrealistic, except for the most rose-tinted of Quins fans. Deano’s beady eye will be firmly squinting at the EDF Cup where Lady Luck has given us an easy pool, two home games and a very winnable trip to the Madstad.

In the meantime, enjoy two more weeks of GP table-topping form because we are going to have to wait almost until Christmas before Quins are likely to gain any more league points.

Why are we looking at tables of last season's results rather than prognostications of this season's possibilities? Doesn't seem to make much logical sense!

"we are going to have to wait almost until Christmas before Quins are likely to gain any more league points."

I'm a bit confused. Surely Wasps and Saracens at home and Worcester away (all November) are good opportunities for points?

We should beat Wasps without internationals and ought to expect a home result against Saracens.

Worcester hard to say - if we win this weekend I'll be more confident. Even so, I'd expect another 10 points before December.

Alanquin it is just the dates in the table that are wrong, I had pointed this out previously.
