Pink Ba-Bas Name Squad for Dubai 7s

The Pink Ba-Bas have named a competitive squad full of youth and experience for their second attendance at the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens at the Dubai Exiles rugby ground from Thursday 29 November to Saturday 1 December 2007. The Dubai Sevens is the first round of the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series, and 2007 marks the 38th running of this prestigious rugby event.

This year will be thebiggest event to date with over 2,000 players taking part and more than 32,000spectators per day.  It isanticipated that more than 12,000 overseas visitors will attend. 

The Pink Ba-Bas willbe led by Captain Janette Shaw and have drawn last years finalists, the IrishBabas and Wooden Spoon who contain a number of current and former Englandinternationals and have won the Stockholm 10s, Kinsale and Amsterdam 7s.

Squad:  Mel Antao (Harlequins), Chantel DeSenna(Richmond), Amy Gibbons (Harlequins), Julie Gilbert (Saracens), Cally Hocknell(Harlequins), Clare Hoppe (Richmond), Jo Kingston (Richmond), Claire McKenna(Old Albanians), Sarah McKenna (Old Albanians), Jo O’Sullivan (Richmond), KatyRule (Henley), Janette Shaw (Teddington Antlers) and Katy Strudwick (Harlequins).

Management:  Sharon Gosling and Michelle Kendell.

Technical Support:  Sandra Elfast (Stockholm Exiles).

Most of the squad willbe arriving a full five days before the tournament and will have plenty of timeto acclimatise to the weather and familiarise themselves with what Dubai has tooffer before matches kick off.

The Pink Ba-Bas havebeen regulars on the 7s and 10s circuit over the summer.  They have won the Old Caterhamians 7s,East Grinstead 7s and Copenhagen 7s; and have been runners up at the Marbella7s, Solstice 7s and Aberaeron 7s.  Notableachievements have been: Kinsale 7s (Cup semi finalists), Church 7s (Cup semi finalists),Amsterdam 7s (Plate semi finalists) and Stockholm 10s (Cup semi finalists).

The Squad which featured 4 Harleqin Ladies player and one former player as manager won the International Invitational Ladies Plate, with Wooden Spoon taking the International Invitational Ladies Cup.

Yes, great time as always. The Harlequin Gents were also there playing in the Vets competition and were unlucky to lose to Wooden Spoon. Lots of Harlequin shirts spotted in Dubai.
