Harlequins look to avenge their defeat against Saracens earlier in the season tonight away at Woolam Playing Fields.
Earlier in the season Saracens A team came to the Stoop, which saw a highly contested match, with Saracens coming off close winners. The score was 21-25 but Harlequins felt that they should have come out on top.

Saracens are undefeated in the A league so far, with a game in hand but Harlequins will definately be pumped up and ready to go with Rory Clegg, Sam Smith, Rob Buchanan and Charlie Matthews all back from England U20's duty and looking to put a real stamp on the game and edge their way clear at the top of the A league table.
The team for tonights game is:

1. Aston Croall
2. Rob Buchanan
3. Dan Frazier
4. Charlie Matthews
5. Tomas Vallejos
6. Sam Stitcher
7. Luke Wallace
8. Chris York
9. Steve So'oialo

Re: Sarries v Quins A tonight

HSBC: Surely any win at the moment would be a boost however small

Re: Sarries v Quins A tonight
Posted by: HSBC (IP Logged)
Date: 15/02/2010 12:49

It might be a little boost, but hardly great for anything, I have never really been involved in a sports club that when the reserves win it helps much with the 1st team morale.

Re: Sarries v Quins A tonight
Posted by: Blue Dragoon (IP Logged)

No you are absolutely right HSBC a win would not be good for morale at all, we must lose this match at all costs. Our A team must get the losing mentality embedded in their physce. Prof and nick are clearly living in cloud cuckoo land. A win? Perish the thought. Prof and Nick must go...NOW!!!winking smiley

It would only provide a boost for those who want a boost. I'm with you Prof, I think it would provide a small but welcome comfort in these desperate times.

Good to see Frazier is still on the scene. He has barely got a look in for Esher and I was wondering if he was injured. Shame this is taking place so far away as I'd love to see it.

HSBC - aren't you desperate for a win from the team at the moment. Some of these players might be involved on Saturday so getting a win might help them.

When things are going against us any help - boost to morale, players recovering from injury etc - must be a good idea mustn't it?

Re: Sarries v Quins A tonight
Posted by: Nicksb (IP Logged)
Date: 15/02/2010 13:03

HSBC - to question why a win tonight would be good for club morale is a bit silly.

It would be a minor miracle for us to win with that team.

Presumably the two TBC places on the bench will be Diprose and Kingston?

23. may be Toby Quarendon or Ollie Richards if they don't have too much homework on.

Not sure about another forward replacement. Things are clearly desperate when we can only name 4 front rowers and no locks or back rowers!

Prof - Frankly it makes no odds to me if they win or not, It wont make me think when I'm waiting for Sat game to start we won on Monday so that will help. Like it wont make think we lost Monday so we will be on ever more of a downer. A team games have no implication on 1st XV games whatsoever, except for players either getting injured, or getting a run out on return fro injury.

cheers prof. did marler play at the weekend? i see matthews is in the team, and thought he played for U20s.

judging by reviews of marler for esher and england and our struggles in the front row i would like to see him competing for a place next season. i know it's still early in his career, but that doesn't seem to have mattered much for mullan and cole.

be good to see another pool of front row talent emerging, with the likes of mullan, cole, corbisiero, maybe marler, the U20s hooker who looked pretty useful. I think it's one of the most disappointing aspects of english rugby at the moment that we're reduced to playing people who are either past it or never up to it, when it used to be one of our main strengths

T bone,

Marler,Matthews & Sam Stuart played in Venice on Friday night

Regarding Sarries team they are similarly based on emerging talent so reckon it will be a tight and exciting game
For Sarries, Owen Farrell is obviously son of "milkfloat",
Jackson Wray (8),Kruiz and Harry Allen are in or close to the u20 squad.

prof and STC, cheers

did matthews not play the full game then, or are we simply so short of cover that he's having to do a double shift?

yep, sorrell is the only one i know about, although i know people talk highly of farrell jnr. is terblanche any relation to stefan?

would like to see jewell given some more time. think he's really come on this season. i assumed williams was on loan for the rest of the season. he looks to me to have a similar style to danny, which can't be a bad thing (i suppose when you're not the tallest of players you tend to nip around more quickly so as to aroid being crushed by some flanker a foot taller and several stone heavier than you)

Re: Sarries v Quins A tonight
Posted by: stoop to conquer (IP Logged)
Date: 15/02/2010 16:21

Matthews did 80 mins on Friday night so I expect he will
only do a half tonight. I expect one of the TBC's is a
lock / flanker. York & Matthews were the second row when we played them at the start of the season, but they had a bigger front 5 then than they appear to have tonight!

HSBC, in the great scheme of things of course you are right but in terms of bragging rights and just general pride in the club I want the Quins to do well at every level..I want the whole brand to be successful be it 1st Team, A team, Esher (by association) RL (the same) the England Quins at whatever level, Quins causes and charities...the whole kit and kerboodle...of course we all want the Quins 1st team to succeed and it pains us when they dont..but a true supporter follows the club through thick and thin...yes we're going through a thin patch..keep the faith...that's what supporters do!!

Just got back and my take on it was a very strong Quins scrum led by Dan Frazier with John Andress' shouting menacingly from the sideline. Both the Quins sin bins were for infringements at the ruck and both myself and the Quins bench felt very upset at Clegg's sin bin. The Quins bench thought there were Sarries hands in the ruck which I didn't see. In his short appearance at the end Daryll Marfo played quite well as did Kevin Corrigan. Clegg's game management was good as was his kicking from the tee and his kicks from hand were good as well, but quite a few went straight down the full-backs throat. So Slow was lively and his service was surprisingly quick. Also it seems like Jim Evans has taken Tomas Vallejos under his wing to try and bring him through as there were lots of one-on-one chats between the two. It also seems like Josh has a bit of a confidence issue at the moment as Dippy was saying things like believe in yourself before the game, and overall his performance was good. Some of the tackles were very good and the back row combined well making some crunching tackles and slowing up Sarries ball. However some tackles were too high and got swatted off too easily so tackling low is imperative However there was a clear 2 on 1 chance with Chisholm and Draunini (I think) where Chishom took contact when the pass was on, but other than that Chisholm played well and was very solid underneath the high ball. Also Wasa seemed like he enjoyed playing 12 as he could have a good few runs. Overall I think the future is bright, but was dissapointed more subs didn't get on cause only Marfo, Corrigan and Collier got on.

Overall Quins thoroughly deserved win. They played with more ambition all game, albeit from their own half. Up front they had the edge and our backs made less mistakes in the bitter cold. If I was a Sarries fan I would be asking why the mgt kept
with Terreblanche for the place kicking when he was clearly having a shocker - in contrast to Clegg who was majestic.
I was standing next to Jake Sharp's Dad and he clearly was not happy. JS would certainly have had more success. Sarries were very fortunate to win at Stoop 25-21 in the first fixture,
we rode our luck on this one !! Top of the table - semi final
vs Northamton next while Sarries play Leicester ?

I think Alex Reid would beat Gordon Brown up quite easily but I think Brown vs Andre might be a little more even!

Great win last night and I didn't think it was ever in doubt. Terblanche had a nightmare with his kicking whereas Rory looked cool and assured in taking his kicks.
I thought So'oialo played well and was definitely showing his experience.
Chris York also impressed me at number 8 but all in it was a great team effort and a very deserved win.

Didn't you start a thread, saying you wanted people to stop mentioning you in other threads?

There's also no real shock to people talking about HSBC in a thread where he's already commented.
