It's still a Harlequins Summer!

What a summer it's been for the Harlequins fan! Traditionally we wrap up rugby before the play offs and then head for the beach and forget all about our brave boys until September rolls around!

Not this summer! With a slew of Harlequins involved in different levels of the England set up, this has been a summer to keep the flame of support burning.

In New Zealand we have not only Mike Brown, Danny Care, Joe Marler and England Captain (I don’t want Stuart Barnes to forget that!!) Chris Robshaw plying their trade.  Against the crusaders we also saw Gray, Ward and Sinckler step up to show what they were capable of.  Sinckler in particular continues a meteoric rise from the A team to England’s first team. Not sure I ever saw that turn of pace he seems to have when he was playing in the A team, but Gray and Ward also did well. Gray getting a dream start with a try in the first couple of minutes of play.

I couldn’t speak for Joe Marler, but I have an instinctive feeling that for whatever reasons we haven’t seen the best of Danny Care or Mike Brown on this tour. Danny Care may still be struggling with injury and Mike may be exorcising demons of tours gone by, but it would be nice if a) they both played in the final test and b) they both showed the world the kind of performance they give us week in week out at Harlequins. Robshaw of course is beyond reproach (unless you’re an ex Bath no 10 who always played second fiddle to Rob Andrew) and seems to have been putting in his usual work at the coal face.

And of course that’s not all, because the England U20s are being helped along by Harry Sloan and James Chisolm.  England beat Ireland to make the final and now face South Africa. Our boys (boys!) have been an integral part of that team.

So, don’t head for the beach just yet. England U20s kick of on Friday against South Africa and obviously there’s the third test against the All Blacks to come.  Here’s hoping Danny Care is fit and we see another of those “made at Harlequins” tries between Robshaw, Care and Brown – with maybe Joe going over the line!

And if we can get any of the other three on the bench, how great would that be?

I would have thought Cheeseman deserved a mention ;-)

Don't really understand that. What 7s is that? Not the full international 7s team?

Hey - I had to knock something up in a hurry at work to get the messageboard back online. Deathless prose or incisive and insightful observation it certainly isn't.

But yes, apologies to Cheeseman who is certainly to be congratulated on his achievement!

I'm guessing but when the rfu press release states 'England 7s debuts' its a full international debut

Good write up DOK. Especially liked the mention of The anti Robshaw clan leader Barnes.
