Fixtures and Musings

So, the new fixture list is out for the premiership games next season. What is there we can make of that list? What do we think of them? eh?

Well the first thing I noticed is there’s a gratifying number of games starting at 15:00 on a Saturday.  It starts with Harlequins vs Wasps at The Stoop and finishes with the game against Bath at the Stoop.  I count 16 games which is very pleasing (and I appreciate that doesn’t please everybody).

And when we don’t have Saturday games, we seem to have Sunday games in preference to Friday night games. I make it 2 Friday games, 3 Sunday games and the rest are on a Saturday. The two Friday night games are both early in the season, a game against Saracens on 12th September and a game against Leicester on 10th October.  The games on Sunday are Exeter, 28th September then Jan 4th at London Welsh (which unfortunately means a trip to Oxford) and finally Wasps at Adams Park on 15th Feb.

Now I am aware that TV can cause all sorts of problems to a schedule, but that isn’t bad by anyone’s standard.  2 Friday night games, three Sunday games and the rest on Saturday usually at 15:00 the exception being away at Sale on 25th April, good work by the club in securing those fixtures I say. And no, I don’t think it happened by accident.

I would expect a lot of changes to this. I believe that after the first set of televised fixtures all the others are listed as their preferred day/time apart from the days where they cant be played at that venue.

I quite like the floodlit games so hope we have a couple

I'd guess that only the first 6 rounds are actually fixed for K-O times. After that, it'll depend on who BT want to show.....

Indeed I thought it was common practice to list all games as 15.00 on a Saturday until the television schedule for that week had been sorted out?

I think I could have been fooled by the fact they're not all at 15:00 on a Saturday. But on closer inspection Wasps and Sale are usually at 14:00, London Welsh at 14:30. Even that isn't hard and fast.
Prem fixtures

But think of the article less as a work of genius and more something thrown together hastily in a lunchtime to get the message board open again!
