Leah Carey to be England Ladies U19s' pack leader

Leah Carey
By Quins Ladies
February 28 2003
Leah Carey was a founder member of Harlequin Ladies Youth team when it was formed in 1998. She soon found her rugby feet and settled into the position of second row.
Leah continued to flourish during the 1999-2000 Season, was selected as a member of the Surrey and Middlesex County Squad going on to gain a place in the South East Regional Squad. Continuing to improve both her skill level and pace, Leah soon found herself moving to the decision making position of Number 8, where she has remained most comfortable. Leah took a bit confidence blow when she was not selected for the RFUW England Youth Performance Camp in the summer of 2000. She remained extremely resilient, fought back, and was successful in selection to both 2001 and 2002 High Performance Academies, She captained the SE England U16 squad, was a member of the victorious U18 squad at the National Regional 10s Competition in 2002, and captained the South East U18s on their inaugural tour to Canada. She followed this by being picked for the England U18 squad, narrowly missing out on selection for the first ever England U18s representative side in 2002.

Leah is now an integral part of Harlequin Ladies first XV, taking up her favourite position of Number 8 on a weekly basis. Her commitment to the team and also to the sport is an inspiration to those around her with squad members, both younger and older, holding her in the highest regard. Leah's hard work, training and dedication have finally paid off and she will be taking her well earned place as pack leader in the England U19s team that faces Wales on the 23rd March in Caerphilly. Leah is a confident and respected leader, a powerful and intelligent rugby player who is certainly capable of achieving great things in the world of Women's Rugby Union.
