Poster Profile 9: BelgianQuin
By The Prof
August 1 2003
BelgianQuin once played at Twickenham for Belgium against Harlequins in Jason Leonard's first game for Quins - here's some more information about him...
Board Name: BelgianQuin
Age: 39
Location: Dendermonde(Belgium) in my country every city is near Brussels…
Occupation: Airplane mechanic
Why did you choose your board name?: I think this is obvious!
How long have you been supporting Quins?: More than 20 years passively and the last 4 or 5 years actively
How did you start supporting Quins?: I saw them play on television and I admired their approach to the game. At the time, Harlequins were the Barbarians of club rugby…
If you play(ed) rugby what position did/do you play?: Backrow: mostly as a blindside flanker
Best ever Quins game: European Shield final against Narbonne (finally some silverware)
Favourite off pitch Quins experience: The post-match entertainment is great at the Stoop. 5 minutes after a disappointing game, we’re having a party and dance the night away! Long live “The Melody Fakers”
What is the most ridiculous rugby related thing you have done?: 1) Participation in a 24 hours rugby marathon. For the record: starting a rugby game at 2 o’clock in the morning was quite bizarre…

2) A 50 minute car drive to Brussels airport, a 50 minute flight to Heathrow, watch 50 minutes of the game - Harlequins vs Sale Sharks and at that time I couldn’t bare it anymore and went to the east stand bar to get extremely pissed like never before… Can someone tell me the final score of that game?
Favourite Ground (after The Stoop): Twickenham (I was lucky to play there once with Belgium against Harlequins)
Favourite Quins Player: Jason Leonard (made his debut for Quins during that game!)
Favourite Non-Quins Player: Richard McCaw
Most likely to say?: Can I have another one please?
I’m not here to rest out…
Least likely to say?: Can I have a rest now?
What are your non-rugby pastimes?: Being a father for my 3 daughters, concerts, fitness and cycling
Favourite Film(s): The best film I ever saw was “The Shawshank Redemption”(the clue of the film is unforgettable)
Favourite TV Programme(s): The rugby club(I like the interaction between Dewi and Stuart), I won’t bother you all with the useless, local programmes I watch
Favourite Book(s): The last book I read was the Biography of Jean-Marie Dedecker, who was for ages the National judo coach and is now a senator in Belgium. I remember that he was asked once to coach the British Olympic judo team, but he refused the offer.
Favourite Music: Radiohead was awesome at the Rock festival in Werchter (end of june), Faithless made history in a concert hall in Brussels last year (at the night, shocks were registrated on the scale of Richter in a weather station, because 15,000 people were jumping up and down and I was one of them)
Favourite Food(s): Pasta
Favourite Drinks(s): Belgium is famous for his beer: I prefer Duvel! I’ve still got to meet a man or woman, who can drink 10 of these and is able to stand firm on his/her feet…In the mean time: I keep practising.
Favourite Quotation(s): Phew!!!
Favourite Place(s) to visit: I go to the world cup in Australia and combine it with a trip to New Zealand. I look forward to visit these countries. In the past I had a great time on Tenerife and Ibiza…
When you were young what did you want Jim to Fix for you?: Who is Jim???
Tell us THREE things about yourself that we wouldn't know.
BUT, TWO of these should be true,
but ONE should be totally made up:
1. I work for the Belgian Air Force
2. I missed my flight to Brussels once, because I was so drunk after a Quins match and a night out in London
3. I’ve had a total of 17 surgeries or medical interventions on my back
