The first game started in evening sunshine and very high temperatures, Montpellier were playing in white against Beziers in bright red.
Within moments of the start there was a penalty to Montpellier on the halfway line which, surprisingly, they kicked for goal, 0-3.
This was definitely a pre-season game, it was incredibly error riddled, terrible error followed terrible error for most of the first half until Beziers scored from a rolling maul to leave the half time score 7-3 (these were 20 minute halfs but he first one took 28 minutes - something even Spreadders would have been proud of!)
Five minutes into the second half the game turned Beziers' way, their full back made a great break to score under the posts, it was converted to increase the home side's lead to 14-3. Just minutes later the Beziers outside centre broke through to score, the conversion was good 21-3 8 minutes into the second half.
The rugby continued to be scrappy and error filled until the Beziers number 8 broke and fed the ball to the full back to score the conversion was missed to leave the final score 26-3.
Parts of this game looked like the Keystone Cops vs the Marx Brothers but Beziers certainly looked the better team.
The second game was to be Montpellier v Quins
