Coached by the legendary All Black and native Samoan Michael Jones, and with a squad containing a number of well known Premiership players (Terry Fanolua, Brian Lima and Alesana Tuilagi) as well as a host of players with Super 12 and NPC experience, this fixture should be a treat for all rugby fans in London and the South-East region.
Tickets will go on sale early next week and it is important to stress that Quins have agreed that 50% of the proceeds from this match will be retained by Manu Samoa, to help support a great rugby nation.
“We are delighted to be staging a game against Manu Samoa at the Twickenham Stoop,” said Mark Evans, NEC Harlequins Chief Executive. “I’m sure our fans will thoroughly enjoy seeing Quins take on such an exciting team.”
“Until recently, the way the global rugby community has failed to support the Pacific Islands has been a disgrace. Hopefully this fixture will, in some small way, assist the Samoan Union to fulfill such an ambitious project as a full tour of Europe. I would urge all rugby supporters to attend this match as a demonstrable show of support for Samoan rugby.”
“This is a game I am eagerly looking forward to,” said Dean Richards, NEC Harlequins Director of Rugby. “It gives our players a chance to play against a touring international side, experience a different rugby culture and for the club to develop an on going relationship with the Samoan Union; which is something quite unique in the professional era.”
