EDF Finals: Part 1 - Chester vs Birkenhead Park
By Phil April 7 2008
It's a big week in the world of Northampton Saints as they prepare to take on Exeter Chiefs in the final of the EDF National Trophy at Twickenham. There are, of course, three matches on the day at HQ. As part of the build up to Saturday, here is the first of a series of articles about the whole event. First up - The EDF Energy Intermediate Cup Final...

EDF ENERGY INTERMEDIATE CUP FINAL

Saturday 12 April 2008, Twickenham 10AM

Chester v Birkenhead Park

Chester, who play their rugby in the North Two West league, are bidding to become just the second side from outside level five to carry off the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup title in the last eight seasons: the others were Stockport in 2006.

Chester have already secured promotion to National One as champions and have never played at Twickenham before.

Birkenhead Park currently occupy 4th spot in North One with a won 10, lost 10 record. This game is Park’s first national cup final appearance, whilst they have not visited Twickenham since participating at the Middlesex Sevens in 1939.

Birkenhead Park have won six of the last seven meetings with Chester when the two sides were in North One between 2003-04 and 2006-07, whilst their only previous national cup clash was in this competition on 13 October 2001 at Birkenhead Park where the home side won 18-13.

And we support Chester don't we? Apparently because Ben Foden's Dad is coach and bro is fly half. Seems a good reason.

If we were going that is. Sulk sulk. I think we need a roll call of those not going to Twickers. And the reasons!!
