Q1 would
commence with Piquet first out joined by several other drivers including
AT&T Williams driver Nico Rosberg. Piquet would set the first time with a
1m:13.208. Piquet was on the harder tyre. Glock would moved ahead of the
Brazilian with a 1m:13.023. Barrichello was now second, 1m:13.030 with
Piquet third and Nico now fourth, 1m:13.226. Button was fifth followed by
Fisichella and Sutil. Kazuki and both Ferrari's had left the pit lane,
joined by both McLaren's. Nico had pitted while Kazuki's first lap would see
him sixth with a 1m:13.519. Barrichello was on the softer tyre.
Trulli
was now fastest with a 1m:12.226. Kovalainen was now second, 1m:12.366,
followed by Massa, 1m:12.574, in third. Nico was now eighth and Kazuki
tenth. But it would be Hamilton who was fastest with a 1m:12.213.
Raikkonen's first timed lap would see him in fourth with a 1m:12.557. Massa
would improve to move up to fourth, 1m:12.389. Nico and Kazuki were still in
their pits with just under ten minutes remaining. Hamilton and Raikkonen had
both pitted while Vettel moved up to fifth, 1m:12.390. Nico would return to
the track while the top four remained in their pits. Piquet was back out and
his next lap would see him jump to third with a 1m:12.348. Kazuki was now
back out while both BMW's had yet to take to the track.
Seventh placed Glock
would spin at the Senna S but was able to continue. Nico would pit without
any improvement from thirteenth while Kazuki was down in sixteenth. Both
BMW's were now on the circuit with six minutes left. Kubica would move up to
twelfth, 1m:12.954. Massa was back out as Heidfeld and Kazuki moved into
eleventh and twelfth places. Nico was now sixteenth. Coulthard would improve
to move up to twelfth. Kazuki was now thirteenth and would pit joining Nico.
Massa was on a quick lap been fastest in sector one. Raikkonen was also back
out with just over three minutes left. Massa would put in a stunning
1m:11.830, the fastest time seen this weekend. It was set on the harder
tyre.
Raikkonen
would also improve moving into second from ninth with a 1m:12.083. Only four
cars remained in the pits as the final minutes counted down. Massa would pit
shortly followed by Raikkonen. The top six were all in their pits as the
session came to a close. Glock would improve to move up to fourth,
1m:12.223. But Alonso would take this spot with a 1m:12.214.
Those not making the cut were Kazuki, Button, Nico, Fisichella, and Sutil.
The top ten was Massa followed by Raikkonen, Hamilton, Alonso, Glock,
Trulli, Piquet, Kovalainen, Heidfeld, and Kubica.
With Kazuki
finishing sixteenth and Nico eighteenth the Williams team qualifying would
come to a very quick end with neither car making it past Q1. Hardly
the performance that team boss Frank Williams would be impressed with. |

Q2 would see
Glock and Trulli set the early times with Trulli fastest, 1m:12.107,
followed by Glock, 1m:12.331. Both Ferrari's and Hamilton would come out
early. Raikkonen was now fastest with a 1m:11.950. Only the BMW's and Vettel
had yet to come out. Massa would continue to show his excellent pace with a
1m:11.875 to move to the top of the times. But Hamilton would match the
Ferrari's with a 1m:11.856 to go fastest. Raikkonen and Trulli had pitted.
The times weer been set on the softer tyre. Alonso was now fourth,
1m:12.090. But Kovalainen would move ahead with a 1m:12.023. Alonso was now
fifth followed by Trulli, Piquet, Bourdais, Webber, and Glock.
Vettel
would put in a quick lap to improve up to fifth, 1m:12.052. Glock would also
improve to take third with a 1m:11.909. Both BMW's were on the track as
Kovalainen returned to the circuit while Glock pitted. Kubica was eleventh,
1m:12.300, but this became twelfth as Heidfeld moved into sixth, 1m:12.026.
Kovalainen was now fastest in sector one and would continue his quick lap
finishing with a 1m:11.768 to move to the top of the times. Raikkonen was
now back out on the circuit joined by several other drivers, including
Hamilton. Kovalainen would pit while Massa remained in his garage.
The final minute would count down as Raikkonen failed to improve from fifth.
One driver who did improve was Vettel who jumped up to second with a
1m;11.845. Bourdais would improve from eleventh to eighth, 1m:12.075. Those
not making the cut were Piquet, Webber, Kubica, Coulthard, and Barrichello.
The top ten was Kovalainen followed by Vettel, Hamilton, Massa, Glock,
Raikkonen, Heidfeld, Bourdais, Alonso, and Trulli. |

With
the drivers now running with their race fuel Q3 would start with Glock first
out followed by Vettel. Massa was next followed by Hamilton. Glock would set
the first time with a 1m:14.311. Vettel was faster with a 1m:13.155.
Everyone was out on the track except Bourdais. Glock would pit as Massa went
fastest with a time of 1m:12.453. Hamilton was third with a 1m:13.252.
Raikkonen was now second, 1m:12.921, but Trulli would move ahead of the Finn
with a 1m:12.918. Kovalainen was now fourth, 1m:13.059. Massa would pit
along with Vettel and Hamilton.
Raikkonen would pit while Bourdais had yet to set a time. With two minutes
left Massa was fastest from Trulli, Raikkonen, Kovalainen, Vettel, Hamilton,
Alonso, Heidfeld, and Glock. Everyone was now back out on the track for
their final runs. Massa would improve slightly as Hamilton moved into second
with a 1m:12.830. This would become fourth as Trulli ns Raikkonen moved into
second and third. Kovalainen was fifth followed by Alonso, Vettel, Heidfeld,
Bourdais, and Glock. So Massa would take pole and have that advantage over
championship rival Hamilton.
For the Williams team Sunday's race will be another one that will be see the
team struggle to come home with a reasonable result. Maybe if it rains the
team may have a small chance to finish 2008 with some points. |
