Old Pete's Puzzler 4
Three  for this week  -  may be a bit easier.

1.  What connects a caribean pace man  with a wireless  impressario and a theatrical knight.   ( must identify all three for maximum points )

2. What connects a masonic functionary  with an uruly peasant and a chanteuse from Swansea  ( must identify all three for maximum points.

3.  FEET FEET  FEET  -

(a) Whose taste in retro naval wear shamed a memorial ?

(b)  Colloquially eponymous with your inquisitor  his podiatric problems once led him take to the field in carpet slippers.

(c)   a subservient posture  linked with the  origins of Cleopatras two time spouse   leads to this metronomic performer.

3(b) I think is James Longstreet, known as Old Pete

Are we talking someone born in Swansea or just raised there?

Q2 I think the answer is Tyler. A tyler is a functionary in freemasonry, the unruly peasant is Wat Tyler and the singer is Bonnie Tyler.

Clearly the possessor of froonsharp brain Mr Spokes gains a maximum of six points on Q2 - correct on all parts.

Just for clarity 3 ( b) its confederate Lt. General James Longstreet who was known to his men as Old Pete. so another 2 points to Ian.

3a is Michael Foot, who turned up at the Cenotaph (I think) in an old raincoat.

I think you are right on 1 Chris - I was going down the Wes Hall, Henry Hall route but got stuck.

Totally the wrong answer here (although theres some truth in it) but as its Friday.

Cleopatras 'two time spouse'(s) were her brothers both called Ptolemy. All the Ptolemy's were descended from Macedonia via one of Alexandar the Greats generals. Tie that in with a 'subservient posture' and I give you 'metronomic performer' Alexandria O'Kneel. winking smiley

Well I tried...

I was going down the Usain Bolt route - he was born in Trelawney, in Jamaica (no I didn't cheat, I watch too much athletics - Stuart Storey/Paul Dickenson take great delight in mentioning it!). I know Marconi had his transmitting station thingy in Cornwall, but I suspect there are far too many links between 'theatrical knights' and Cornwall - they must have all been in the Pirates of Penzance at some stage - so I'm stuck there.

some on target but didnt knoiw it and others are - well - pot shots.

Courtney is the wrong connection - Mr Spokes is on the right track.

FEET - the answer Emma is as you say Michael foot - but it wasnt a raincoat - the retro naval waer - was a duffle coat.

Chris - no Ptolemaic connections - perhaps its a " thespian " cleopatra ?

(Sm128) Thanks!

Puzzlers 1, 2 and 3 have been way beyond me and I was soooo busy doing 'real' work this morning (Sm14)that I was too late to stand a chance with these!
