CARLSBERG CONTINUE LONG-TERM SUPPORT OF THE SAINTS

Northampton Saints today announced that Carlsberg UK have signed a new, 10-year, sponsorship agreement with the club.

The agreement is a seven-figure deal that represents the continuation of a 20-year relationship between the club and Carlsberg UK.

Carlsberg UK will continue as an elite sponsor with Tetley’s Bitter remaining the official beer of Northampton Saints.

Northampton Saints chief executive Allan Robson is delighted that Carlsberg UK is continuing its association with the club.

“Carlsberg UK has given us a massive vote of confidence by signing a long-term sponsorship agreement of this magnitude,” he said. “We have enjoyed a lengthy and mutually beneficial relationship over two decades and this new deal shows that they have belief in the direction that the club is heading.

“The Tetley’s logo was on our shirts when we won the Heineken Cup in 2000 and the European Challenge Cup in 2009, and I am looking forward to enjoying future success with a company that, like us, is a Northampton landmark.”

Carlsberg UK is one of Northampton’s biggest companies, employing around 500 people at its brewery in the town. Tetley’s Bitter is still one of the most well known beer brands in the country and the number two ale brand in the UK.

“Carlsberg UK is committed to supporting sport in the local community. We have a very strong relationship with Northampton Saints and were more than happy to continue the partnership with a further long-term deal with the club,” said Gareth Roberts, director of sponsorship at Carlsberg UK. “The Tetley’s brand continues to be synonymous with rugby at all levels and beneficial partnerships such as these that allow the brand continuous high profile exposure"

“It was tremendous to see the Saints win the European Challenge Cup this year and we are sure more success is on its way to Franklin’s Gardens.”

Good news for the club and hence for us. Difficult times to be signing new deals.

It does make you wonder sometimes how the alcohol advertising ban in France affects some clubs, rich as some of them are i'm sure some of the lesser lights, a few who have already gone to the wall (including Bordeaux), could do well out of the extra sponsorship.

Is this just sponsorship or does it include the provision of the matchday drinking experience?

It's the experience too.

Great news...and nice to see that all the winos with their cans of 'Special Brew' are still (albeit indirectly) supporting Saints...

Excellent news from a business perspective, I can't stress that enough.

However, from a consumer prospective isn't not so great. I very much doubt we'll be able to get some quality independant brew in the ground now.

Maybe they could start serving the Elephant Beer they do, that's quite satisfactory.

Thank you very much Carlsberg!

As for the Match Day Beer Experience, it is built for speed as opposed to variety.

I wonder if this is another of those front loaded deals to help finance the ground enlargement. I seem to remember there was something similar when they sponsored the tetleys stand.

Imperial would be a pleasant change. Maybe even get enough to last until after half time.....
