So I got brownie points this weekend by doing something, anything at all, around the house. Was this a wise decision?
Ok - so this time it was different. Wasps were suffering from their worst start that I can remember and Saints were still searching for their first win on the road in the Guinness Premiership. Reading the reports and talking to the boys and girls who did make the trip it sounded like we were extremely unfortunate not to come away with more than (only) our second losing bonus point. It was a low scoring affair with the show pony from Buckinghamshire - sorry London Wasps slotting over penalties as Saints infringed and were pinged by Mr Debney. Now I am sure Debbers saw it all absolutely perfectly but I do know that there were quite a few waspies were surprised how lenient he was with Bishay's roundball style tackle. Despite being a man down the Wasps defence held firm - or was it nerves on Saints part as frequent fumbles and lack of precision led to golden opportunities being missed. Any way you want to cut it the match turned round with Saints yet to trouble the scorer against two penalties to Wasps.
In the second half Saints continued to batter the Wycombe line - which held firm apart from a Ben Foden try. With Mylers missed conversion it was still advantage, just, to the home team. Further pressure from the Saints was to prove fruitless and when they infringed Danny boy stepped up and nailed one of the resultant penalties to give what would turn out to be a winning margin of 9 - 5 to Wasps. There was still time for Ben Foden to have another effort denied by Voyce - but was he held back? The answer to that seems to depend on which team you support. Mr Debney siding with the defence.
So I missed another loss at the Causeway but all agreed it was there for us to win and so Jim and his team left the leafy climes of South Buckinghamshire still wondering where that elusive first win was going to come from.
Well it was almost business as usual! Paul Diggin was again eye catching getting just under 10% of the votes cast. Paul continues to amaze and astound with his performance this season.
In second place and again a common contributer to this section of the MoTM reports was Ben Foden. I am sure that if Ben had managed to sprint around Voyce /shrug off the pull back (delete as appropriate) then I feel that he would have this one in the bag as well. Ben got 24% of the votes cast.
The winner - and now catching up Mr Diggin quite quickly was the Astonishing Roger Wilson. Roger has shown us what we have missed in a number 8 (have I said this before) and I am sure is being an excellent role model to those who must be striving manfully to try and deprive him of a starting place. Roger was a clear winner with 33% of the votes. Roger is now just half a game behind Digger!
In the divisional stakes the forwards are beginning to put clear water between themselves and the backs (even if we include the half backs).
And finally thanks to all who voted and to you for reading.
