The MoTM reviews this year are a retrospective and are done from reports and comments as I saw most of my rugby at Ellis Park and Loftus Versfield this season. Looking back on the reports it would appear that it was Wasps that started the game with “hats on Wheels” and they dominated much of the opening period – leaving the travelling fans with little to cheer. At half time it was 17 – 3 with golden boy having scored a try for which the conversion was missed. Apart from that it would seem that the men in GB&G were giving away numerous penalties – the sign of a side under pressure.
The second half was the opposite apart from the fact that despite much pressure on the Wasps line Saints just could not find a way through. The match finished 20 – 15 with the second half having been won 12 – 4 by the Saints. Talking to those that went this was a lot like the Sarries away game – one that we could and probably should have won.
There were really only two names in the frame this week. Chris Mayor got just over 9% of the votes but the stand out player was the evergreen Bruce Reihana with 58%. Well done to Bruce. He really is an asset to this rugby club and will leave a big hole when he finally decides it is time to hang up his boots.
So far this campaign Big Jim has utilised 24 different starting players in his line up with 5 players having started every game. It would seem that at this stage Jim was still trying to find the cup final 15. The ever presents were Ben Foden, Bruce Reihana, Jurandre Kruger, Lee Dickson and Shane Geraghty.
Thanks to the 55 people who voted - it does make my task in compiling these reports easier.
