WASPS v SAINTSAviva Premiership Rugby, Round 21The Ricoh ArenaSunday 29th April, 2018Kick-off: 3pm    Northampton Saints make just two changes for their trip to Wasps this Sunday, with Alex Waller and Luther Burrell coming into the starting line-up

Saints will be hoping for their first-ever victory in Coventry this weekend, having last won on Wasps soil back in 2013.

Interim head coach Alan Dickens and technical coaching consultant Alan Gaffney welcome back Burrell and Waller into the starting XV for the first time since their respective injury layoffs – both lined up on the bench against Tigers.

But there’s also a return for Heinrich Brüssow; the South African flanker is fit enough for a spot on the bench after last playing against Bath Rugby back in March.

Burrell partners up with Piers Francis in the centres with Stephen Myler and Cobus Reinach continuing together in the half-backs.

Ben Foden will lead out the side as captain, and the Saints veteran is joined in the back three by George North and fullback Ahsee Tuala.

Waller is the only change in Saints pack from the win over Tigers, with Mikey Haywood and Paul Hill selected in the front row, and Api Ratuniyarawa and James Craig behind them.

The back row remains unchanged with Jamie Gibson, Teimana Harrison, and Mitch Eadie all impressing in Leicester – but Alex Mitchell, James Grayson and Tom Collins will all look to inject some pace off the bench.

Nobody's offering any info other than he was reported to be unwell after his last match but that was some time ago and he is out and about so we are in the dark.

Still no Ludlum.

So am I over-rating his potential (he was brilliant in the Under 20s stealing ball at will. I remember a commentator saying he looks like a future England international and he was one of the few players who did well in the first game of the season v Sarries but hasn't played since) or are the coaches making a mistake?

I am pleased to see the same team (bar Rob and Patterson) given the chance again to impress. It will be a very tough ask to go to Wasps but they managed to achieve a result away at Tigers.

For Ludlum, there is no more he can do for the time being with this set of coaches and to be honest this has probably been the case since Jim left. New pre-season, new set of coaches, new start.

The back row were brilliant at WR, Brussow is fit. Let Ludlam play on Monday in the final.

Of course he should have played more but he'll get chances next year.

On Monday night, Ludlam was oustanding - you are definitely not over rating him!

He needs to be given a run of games to realise his potential at Premiership level.

I also agree with AndySaint - I think these coaches are set in their ways but I would expect his style of play to be more suited to Boyd than West/Dickens.

lets give him a full pre-season, oppotunity to bulk up and some quality coaching.

I think Boyd is far more likely to play younger players on merit than our previous management team. Afterall, he is likely to come with, whilst we're all very hopeful, a clean slate.

Any comparisons will be with this year and the last two, so whatever he does isn't going to look bad.

So the likes of Ludlam, Painter, Harry, both Frasers and Collins should see considerably more game time.

fingers crossed

Ludlam possibly for a spot on the bench.

But he doesn't start yet for me.

Tei, has been one of our best players over the last 2 seasons by quite a margin.
He is in his better position now at 7, and I think he will own that shirt for a while.
He brings a raw aggression and tenacity that is so important to our pack.

Looking forward to the competition between those two guys next year though.
I think Boyd will like both of them.
It does make the Brussow signing over another number 8 as well as Eadie look all the more strange.

I really like young guys getting a chance.
And I like the young guys on the bench in Painter, Grayson and Mitchell.

But when we call for young guys to get a chance we have to think who we will drop as well.....

Let's hope we can continue the Leicester form.
It will be a tough outing at Wasps.

As much as it would appease some to see Ludlam's name on the team sheet - who do they suggest we drop - Harrison ? Probably our best players at Tigers.

As good a team as we could field given injuries I think. Hopefully the Tigers game will give us a boost for the rest of the season. Consistency has been pretty much absent this season though, so no expectations from me.

Nath, I was confused by the Brussow signing at the time, and I'm still no more convinced. Felt like a panic signing to replace an 8 with another flanker. We've been short at 8 and overstocked at flanker all season.

there are only 15 starters. its the age old question why isn't so and so playing and yet the bigger question is who would you drop. T & JG have been brilliant all season so would you drop one of these to accommodate an as yet unproven at this level Ludlam? He is young and will get opportunities I'm sure next season.

My suggestion would be drop Brussow and put Ludlam on the bench. Im unconvinced so far and would rather have seen an 8 targeted. There is no doubting Brussow's quality a few years ago but there are signs he is injury prone and not at the same level he was.

If he’s injury prone then play him when he’s fit and others can play if/when he’s injured. Simples.

This couldn’ve been a breakthrough season for Ludlam but the glandular fever and the enforced time our in caused, made this not happen. His time will come.

Sadly, I still have fears that this team can capitulate and was worried this nearly happened until Tigers couldn’t catch their lineouts and chose to kick penalties rather than put pressure on us. Still, have wasps are beatable. Keep ‘em out for the first 20 and it’s doable.

Having the same ref (as against tigers) is very useful

We can't make Europe and we can't be relegated. So I'd have given Ludlum game time. For me it's not a question of dropping Gibson or Tei but rotating. Give one of your best players a rest for a game and play others. It's what Exeter and Sarries do all the time.

He was over the Glandular Fever by late October and has played for the Wandies since then - I'd cite the short sightedness of the under fire coaches and the challenges of a very difficult season limiting his game time rather than that illness.

Ludlum has been better than Wood and a better 7 than Gibson.

He should have played much more than he has.

Your second sentence rather contradicts the first. Has he actually played enough to be able to judge he is better than Wood or Gibson ?

It doesn’t, the coaches have just been terrible at selection. The back row hasn’t worked for the majority of the season.

Any idea where Harry is, or are we assuming he’s not making the cut?

C’mon you Saints!

Still recovering from his 'funny turn', as I understand. A phrase which sounds more and more ominous the more I hear it.

Their backs may be @#$%&-hot with the ball, but they are not going to stop Burrell, North and Tuala on the gainline single handed at pace when the average is half back sized right across their backline... there is potential to create gaps. Critical the forwards secure fast ball and we use it quickly, look for the midfield mismatches and drag their line out of shape. If we're on the back foot and kicking infield I suspect we will get torn to bits on the counter attack.
