SkyBet and a host of other leading bookmakers have released odds for next season's Northern Rail Cup. Whilst the Scorpions are not competing, the odds give fans an indication of who the bookmakers believe the strongest clubs to be in next season's 11-club Championship One.

Unsurprisingly, some of the bigger names from rugby league's second flight are fancied to win the National League Cup.

A host of Super League hopefuls are expected to lead the race for the Northern Rail-sponsored prize, with Barrow marked up as 4/1 favourites and Widnes priced at 9/2.

The Championship One clubs are all considered outsiders - but SkyBet believe Gateshead are the most likely to go all the way. The North East outfit are priced up at 33/1.

Next in line are York City Knights, Swinton Lions and Blackpool Panthers - all of whom can be backed at 50/1.

Rochdale Hornets and Oldham Roughyeds are 66/1 shots, whilst Workington Town, the Scorpions' first ever opponents, are rank outsiders at 100/1.

"Local rivals" London Skolars can be backed at the huge price of 125/1.

SkyBet's odds, however - from a Championship One perspective at least - seem to be weighted almost entirely on last season's league placing. Are they a fair indicator of who will be challenging next season? Join in the debate on the messageboard.
