Weather conditions force postponement of Trefforest trial

Snow Snow Snow!
By Chris O'Brien,

The South Wales Scorpions have been forced to postpone the 'Open Trial' pencilled in for January 10th. Heavy snow and freezing conditions mean the pitch at Trefforest will not be playable next week.

The weather has caused chaos across Great Britain - and further snowfall is forecast from Sunday.

Sporting events have been cancelled at all ends of the country, and the big freeze has hit the Scorpions' plans ahead of the eagerly anticipated Championship One campaign.

The club have been forced to postpone the trial day which was due to take place in Trefforest.

January 10th had looked an important day for the Scorpions in terms of player recruitment. The new club are yet to announce the arrival of a Head Coach, and the trial's postponement will not held preparations ahead of the Championship One opener against Workington Town.

However, players who had put their name down for the trial will soon be informed of a new date and venue.

The event had been billed as an 'Open Trial' - but the club have been left overwhelmed by the volume of applications.

Almost 100 players asked to be considered - so officials have been forced to tell some applicants that they will not be offered a trial on this occasion. While this is bitterly disappointing for those in question, it does suggest that the standard of applications has been high.

Re: Weather conditions force postponement of Trefforest trial
Not unexpected, and with this bad weather set to continue for the next week or two my main concern now is registration and training sessions for the players eventually selected for the opening game. No supprise at the number of players applying for the trials either and have always felt, in both terms of players and support, that rugby league at this level would always be viable. Starting at the bottom, but thats the way it should be, and like many others, now looking forward to having rugby league back in South Wales.

I always knew that there would be a lot of interest from players for this trial, and that there are a lot of quality players out there. I was just wondering how many players will actually be asked to go to the trial?

Re: Weather conditions force postponement of Trefforest trial
It was originally an open trial for players and the application forms to take part had to be in by Jan 4th. Due to the bad weather the trials were postponed until this Sunday.
But as stated on the main thread above, the interest was so great they have already had to cut down the numbers of players taking part.
